Zvezda Shipyard to hand over five gas carriers to Novatek in 2024

The company has ordered two or three more LNG tankers from another site for the Arctic LNG-2 project.

Zvezda Shipyard will hand over five gas carriers to Novatek in 2024, while two or three more LNG tankers for the Arctic LNG-2 project have been ordered by the company at another site. The head of the company, Leonid Mikhelson, said this to TASS on the sidelines of SPIEF.

Arctic LNG-2 is Novatek's second LNG project. It envisages the construction of three liquefied natural gas production lines with a capacity of 6.6 mn tons per year each and stable gas condensate up to 1.6 mn tons per year. The resource base for the project is the Utrenneye field, located on the Gydan peninsula in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. The first line is scheduled to start in December 2023, the second and third lines in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

The shareholders of the project are Novatek (60%), Total (10%), CNPC (10%), CNOOC Limited (10%) and Japan Arctic LNG, a consortium of Mitsui & Co, Ltd. and JOGMEC (10%).
