A resident of the Arctic zone of Russia opened a modern ophthalmological center in Murmansk

05.07.2022 // A resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, the Ophthalmology Centre of the Murmansk Region, is holding a walk-in day for patients with eye diseases who need specialised and high-tech assistance.

An investment project with RUB 56 mn invested was implemented under the agreement with the Far East Development Corporation using state support measures. Under its design, the Murmansk clinic should be able to take in up to 10,000 people and perform more than 4,000 operations a year.

The ophthalmology centre will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with plans for a 24-hour shift in the future. This will reduce the waiting time for ophthalmic surgical care in the region to the standard — up to 30 days.

'We have already received a medical license from the Ministry of Health of the Murmansk Region, are testing the work of the latest diagnostic equipment and are ready to welcome our first patients. The range of possible services that can be received in our centre is maximum: we aim to reduce the number of adults and young Murmansk residents with poor vision and blind ones who are sent outside the region. In addition, we applied for participation in the programme of compulsory medical insurance, so that all local residents under the allocated quotas could receive a free examination and surgical treatment of eye diseases,' — said Alexey Galushkin, the Director of the Ophthalmology Centre of Murmansk Region.

The centre will provide outpatient care and surgical treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus and other pathologies using modern methods, new supplies and eye protection elements. Modern medical and computer equipment, as well as medical furniture, were purchased. The centre employs the help of qualified doctors who have skills and knowledge on how to reduce the number of visually impaired people and get rid of glasses and contact lenses.

"During July we are waiting for a group of architects and specialists from Minsk to help us choose a site for our own building. Now we are working in the premises, where a complete reconstruction has been carried out. And the new modern building, the area of which will be increased several times, will ensure round-the-clock reception of patients. We expect that the planning and construction will not take more than two years. Additional areas will allow opening of a children department, and in future on the basis of the centre we will create a university clinic for training of ophthalmologists and middle medical personnel," said Alexey Galushkin, adding that the company also plans to arrange treatment of ophthalmologists in the populated areas of the region.
