Indigenous youth to gather at the Russian North Forum on Yamal
The Russian North Forum has become a traditional event since 2015. It has already been held in various Russian cities and has settled in Yamal for the last three years.
13 November 2024The Forum of Indigenous Youth 'Russian North,' part of the Rosmolodezh.Events platform, will take place from 20 to 23 November in Salekhard. The event will bring together 100 participants from 30 regions of Russia to work on popularising the culture and heritage of the peoples of the North. Olga Roshinko, a resident of Inchoun settlement, Chukotsky municipal district, who works at the cultural centre, will also participate in the forum. This was reported by the press service of the Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area.
For 10 years already, the Russian North Forum has been a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences among young people aged 14 to 35. This year's participation in the forum will be especially interesting: young activists, ethnobloggers, designers and tour guides aim to preserve their cultural roots and further popularise their traditions.
'There were about 800 applications for this year's forum. There was a tough selection process that resulted in 100 participants being approved. The guys are already receiving the coveted invitation letters,' said Inessa Yaungad, Program Director of the Russian North Forum.
During the forum, participants will be able to work in five areas, including youth community development, language preservation and indigenous cultural heritage. The Rosmolodezh grant competition will also start here, which will give the authors of interesting youth projects the opportunity to receive funding of up to RUB 1.5 mn.
