Funding for the Russian Arctic development programme has doubled
Over RUB 26 bn earmarked for Arctic closed administrative-territorial formations
20 October 2024Aleksey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, attended a State Duma Budget and Taxation Committee meeting. The committee reviewed the draft Federal Law on the 2025–2027 budget, focusing on socio-economic development programmes for the Far East and Arctic regions. This is reported by the Murmansky Vestnik.
Aleksey Chekunkov announced that funding for the Russian Arctic development programme has doubled. More than RUB 26 bn will be allocated to develop Arctic closed administrative-territorial formations and build infrastructure under the Presidential Arctic subsidy.
The Arctic State Programme includes modernising the heat supply system of Arktikugol on Spitsbergen, creating the Northern Supply information system, supporting indigenous Arctic peoples, providing recreation programmes for Arctic children, offering benefits for families with three or more children, and other measures.
