Chibis proposed including facilities for the development of Arctic key cities in national projects

The Governor of the Murmansk Region announced this at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

6 August 2024

Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region and Chairman of the State Council Commission on the North Sea Route and the Arctic, suggested that new national projects should include facilities featured in the master plans for the development of Arctic reference cities. This was reported by TASS.

As Chibis noted, the idea is that 'those facilities necessary for implementation, when forming new national projects, should be included [in the master plans], so that there would be a clear source [of funding] if we have planned it.'

In 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to determine the list of settlements in the Arctic that will be considered as strongholds. Master development plans for these settlements need to be prepared for the period up to 2035—similar to those already developed for Far Eastern cities. Practical implementation of the measures in the master plans is set to begin as early as 2025.
