Andrei Tarasenko noted that on the instructions of the Head of Yakutia Aysen Nikolayev, the republic is implementing a project to clean up the coastal part of the Arctic zone on the principles of public-private partnership. The press service of the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) informed about it.

According to the preliminary inventory, more than 400 points where non-ferrous and ferrous metal scrap have accumulated have been identified in the republic, most of which are located in the Arctic Zone. This info is based on reports from the press service of the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

A timetable for the clean-up of the Arctic coastal zone is currently being developed, including a decision to make a re-inventory of the scrap accumulation points with representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. A scheme for the removal of abandoned scrap metal is also being developed.

The clean-up will involve the employees and volunteers from companies with which the Arctic regions will sign agreements. The group will be arriving in Yakutia shortly.

The accumulated environmental damage within the republic is mainly made up of objects left over from Soviet times.
