This year, over ten trips from Chinese ports to Arkhangelsk via the North Sea Route are scheduled
A cooperation agreement was signed among the Arkhangelsk Region, Arkhangelsk Commercial Seaport and Torgmall LLC.
8 May 2024According to the press service of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, the agreement stipulates that Torgmall will manage the maritime transport of goods from Chinese ports to Arkhangelsk, planning 10–12 voyages during the navigation season through the North Sea Route in 2024. Arkhangelsk Commercial Seaport will ensure that the Ekonomiya terminal infrastructure is prepared for cargo handling. The Arkhangelsk regional government will provide support to enterprises in this sector.
Alexander Tsybulsky noted that the Arkhangelsk seaport's designed capacity is approximately 11 mn tons of cargo annually, but currently, it handles between 4 and 6.5 mn tons.
The Arkhangelsk port's location enables sea voyages from China via both the North Sea Route and the Suez Canal. While a voyage from Arkhangelsk to Shanghai via the Suez Canal takes 40–50 days, the North Sea Route cuts the journey time to about 20–22 days.
