By 2024, shippers plan to transport approximately 72 million tons of cargo along the Northern Sea Route. By the end of 2023, it is expected that this figure will reach 36 million tons, according to Gadzhimagomed Huseynov, First Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Far East and Arctic Development. This is reported by TASS.

'Under binding agreements, we have declared a volume of 72 million tons for 2024. The overall target set by the president for 2024 is 80 million tons. Given the external sanctions pressure, many projects are challenging to implement, requiring a revision of projects and replacement of equipment suppliers and equipment itself. Despite the pressure on meeting targets due to sanctions, several companies are fulfilling their obligations even under these difficult conditions,' he said during the 'Northern Sea Route — 365?' session at the Arctic: Present and Future forum.

Huseynov noted that in 2023, over 36 million tons of cargo will be transported along the NSR, setting a historical record. 'The Northern Sea Route is becoming increasingly clear and predictable for all participants with each passing year,' he noted.
