Students from nomadic families are fully reimbursed for their tuition fees at universities
On average, subsidies are provided to about a hundred students from various courses each year, with 90% of them finding employment in organisations and institutions in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. Over the past five years, about 500 Yamal students have benefited from this support measure.
13 September 2024Students whose parents lead a nomadic lifestyle can apply for a targeted educational subsidy. The region will reimburse 100% of the tuition fees at the university, provided there are no academic debts. This was reported by the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area regional government's press service.
The subsidy will be provided for one academic year. To do this, a contract will be concluded between the local self-government body in the field of education, the student and the parent. The funds will be transferred to the university's account by 1 December. Upon graduation, the student must work in their field of study or a related area for at least three years in organisations within the region.
The region provides comprehensive support for children of tundra dwellers wishing to obtain vocational education—an educational certificate is available for them. Since 2020, an additional 75 places in various specialties have been provided annually for children from nomadic families, in addition to the allocated budgetary places.
Among the support measures in the education sector is the provision of a monthly scholarship from the Governor of YNAA amounting to RUB 10 thousand. Also, starting this year, each graduate of boarding schools has been assigned curators from the education sector and relevant structures dealing with indigenous minorities.
