Scientists in Yamal are enhancing methods for studying Earth's icy surfaces

Researchers drilled a borehole and conducted isotopic ice analysis.

Yamal scientists are advancing the RNF-YNAA project on modern geophysical research methods aimed at developing scientifically supported approaches to studying the cryolithozone's internal structure, Arctic surface cryogenic forms and their potential link to fluid dynamic processes. This is reported by the Telegram channel 'Yamal Unites.'

As part of the project, a well was drilled providing detailed lithology descriptions and sample analyses; thermometric equipment with automatic data transmission was installed. Additionally, a detailed geological-geophysical model of the study site was created, and isotopic ice composition analysis along the borehole profile was performed to identify fluid dynamic trends.

Following project completion, an optimal set of modern research methods will be identified for effectively studying the cryolithozone and geocryological processes. It's worth noting that last year's project research report was approved by the RNF Expert Council. The committee has decided to extend funding for a third year.
