Novak: LNG plants in Yamal will ensure LNG production of 100 mn tons by 2030

The deputy prime minister had earlier stated that Russia needed to find a resource base for LNG projects for an additional 34 mn tons per year to increase its liquefied natural gas production to 100 mn tons.

New LNG plants in Yamal will allow for up to 100 mn tons of LNG production by 2030, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said, TASS quoted him as saying. 

Earlier, Novak said Russia needed to find a resource base for LNG projects for an additional 34 mn tons a year to increase its liquefied natural gas production to 100 mn tons. LNG production in the Russian Federation is about 33 mn tons according to implemented projects. Including the projects under construction, the Ust-Luga and Arctic LNG 2 plants, Russia will reach a production capacity of 66 mn tons of LNG per year.

In addition, Novatek has recently confirmed that it is studying the possibility of building a liquefaction plant in the Murmansk Region of three lines of 6.8 mn tons each. The first line of the plant could be operational in 2027 and the second line in 2029.
