Mikhail Somov set off on its second voyage to supply polar stations of Roshydromet

The return of Mikhail Somov to Arkhangelsk is planned for early August.

2 July 2024

On 2 July, the scientific expedition vessel Mikhail Somov of the Northern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring left Arkhangelsk on a voyage to supply vital cargo to the polar stations of Roshydromet. The Arkhangelsk regional government's press service reported.

On board, there is a change of polar explorers, as well as food, equipment, fuel, construction materials and other cargo necessary to support the work of meteorologists at hard-to-reach stations.

Within a month, the ship will deliver supplies to 16 stations located on the islands and coasts of the Barents and Kara Seas.

During the voyage, specialists from the Northern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring will carry out scheduled maintenance of meteorological equipment, communications and energy equipment; it is planned to install new power-generating units in a number of locations.

Inspection checks will be carried out at all stations to carry out marine coastal observations.

This is already the second voyage of the Mikhail Somov this year. During the first one, supplies were delivered to 20 polar stations of the Northern and Murmansk departments of Roshydromet. In total, during the navigation year 2024, the ship will make three voyages to supply polar stations.
