A cooperation agreement was signed in Salekhard between the Yamal Government and Russian Railways. The document was signed by Dmitry Artyukhov, Governor of Yamal, and Pavel Burtsev, Head of the Sverdlovsk Railroad, a branch of Russian Railways. The press service of the Government of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area reports about it.

The parties agreed to overhaul 75 km of railway bed and reconstruct bridges. The work will be completed in phases over three years.

After the overhaul of the railroad track on the Korotchaevo – Novy Urengoy section, the speed of train traffic will increase, travel time and cargo delivery time will be reduced by 1.3 times, and road maintenance costs will be reduced.

'There is quite a bit of work to be done, and the results of that work will be felt by both passengers and shippers in the region. Development of the infrastructure of the Korotchaevo – Novy Urengoy section will allow to increase the reliability and resource of the railroad track, to increase the speed of passenger and freight trains, to reduce the time of trains passing through the section,' emphasised Pavel Burtsev.

Cargo traffic in the district is growing annually: last year, it amounted to 12.5 mn tons. These are oil products produced in Yamal, as well as construction materials used to build houses and roads in the region.
