In Yakutia, financial support for reindeer herders towards housing purchase or construction has been doubled

It will be set at RUB 2 mn.

3 May 2024

In Yakutia, payments to young reindeer herders for housing construction or purchase have been increased to RUB 2 mn. Mikhail Pogodaev, Deputy Minister for Arctic Development and Affairs of the Peoples of the North of Sakha (Yakutia), reported this to TASS.

'The regional government has announced that payments for young reindeer herders' housing construction will increase to RUB 2 mn in 2024. Under the state programme "Development of the Arctic Zone of Sakha (Yakutia) and Indigenous Minorities," RUB 28 mn will be allocated for these purposes,' stated Pogodaev.

Regional authorities anticipate that the increased payments will equip young reindeer herders with essential resources for building their own homes.

Pogodaev clarified that enhanced payments would be available to young reindeer herders who meet specific criteria such as being at least 18 years old and lacking personal housing. These funds will be directed towards purchasing or constructing homes at the primary work locations of young reindeer herders. Previously, this payment was RUB 1 mn.
