In Pomorie, a robot designed to inspect the internal state of pipes is currently being tested

Scientists in Arkhangelsk are continuing their tests on a robot that measures the internal diameter of pipes and checks their surface condition.

The device is fitted with wheels on telescopic legs that can adjust to fit the pipe's dimensions. Additionally, the system is outfitted with video cameras and laser rangefinders for data collection. Data is sent via Wi-Fi to a processing centre where a 3D model of the internal space is generated. This was reported by the press service of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region.

'With backing from the Russian Arctic Research Centre, the Onega research design and technology bureau has developed a unique robot capable of exploring and gathering data from spaces that are otherwise inaccessible. Denis Leonidovich Neradovsky, the robot's creator, claims that this development is unparalleled, with no similar models either in Russia or globally,' stated Alexander Tsybulsky, governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, on social media.

According to NIPTB Onega (part of OSK), this device will find applications in shipbuilding and ship repair, which involve numerous cylindrical equipment components. The prototype is designed for pipes up to 30 cm in diameter, although robots for other sizes could also be developed.
