By 2027, All District Centers of Yakutia's Northern and Arctic Uluses Will Have Fiber Optic Lines

A fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) is scheduled to be installed in Tiksi of Bulunsky ulus in 2025.

6 March 2024

Anatoly Semenov, the Deputy Chairman of the Republic's Government, announced that currently, 386 settlements are connected to high-speed fiber-optic communication lines, spanning 14 thousand kilometers. Ulus.Media reports that the number will increase even further by 2027, thanks to the initiation of the Synergy of the Arctic project.

The residents of Zhigansky district have recently been connected to the Internet, following the FOCL coverage in Anabarsky and Oleneksky districts. FOCL is scheduled to be installed in Tiksi of Bulunsky ulus in 2025.

Furthermore, the Synergy of the Arctic project will soon be launched by order of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. This project aims to install FOCLs in all Arctic district centers by the end of 2027, as stated by Anatoly Semenov during his speech.

"The geographical distance between our districts, transportation links, and harsh winters result in the average Yakutian spending three times more time on the internet than the average Russian citizen. The advent of high-speed internet in remote communities not only reduces costs but also provides opportunities to access government services, medical services, education, remote work, and more," Anatoly Semenov noted.
