Given the new economic conditions, experts are noting a steady interest in the Karelian Arctic as an investment hub. Approximately 25% of residents of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF) in the republic are engaged in tourism, with the social sphere and services, as well as the construction industry and development also being popular sectors. This was reported to RBC Karelia by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic.

Currently, the total investment in 68 projects, which are expected to create 2.3 thousand jobs, has reached RUB 97.5 bn.

Business structures have shown good activity in obtaining Arctic resident status, notes the specialized department. In Karelia, entrepreneurs have achieved this status 46 times over the past 2 years. One of the most sought-after "Arctic" benefits has been the Hectare in the Arctic.

The Hectar of the Arctic is a state program that allows land plots to be obtained free of charge for building a house or cottage, for entrepreneurial activities and for agriculture. The program was launched on August 1, 2021, allowing Russian citizens to obtain a hectare of land in the Arctic regions of the republic, including forest lands, for free use for 5 years. For this purpose, more than 300 thousand hectares of forest fund lands were allocated in Belomorsky, Kalevalsky, Kemsky, and Loukhsky municipal districts.
