The Russian Federal Agency for Tourism Proposes the Promotion of Tourism in the Arctic to Preserve Nature and Culture
According to Zarina Doguzova, Head of the Agency, this proposal should be formalised in a new law on tourism
25 September 2020Increasing the accessibility of the Arctic region for travellers must be combined with efforts to preserve the region’s unique nature and authentic culture. TASS reported this statement on 18 September by Zarina Doguzova, Head of the Federal Tourism Agency, speaking at the opening of the Accessible Arctic Forum and the First Arctic Media Congress in St. Petersburg.
The Agency Head noted that tourism is one of the key priorities for the development of the entire Arctic region. She prioritised the open discussion of issues related to increasing the accessibility of the Arctic as the key problem for the forum, as well as the establishment of specific long- and short-term measures for achieving those objectives.
Doguzova emphasised that the development of Arctic tourism must be stipulated in a new law on tourism which will be drafted in the coming months.
