Some 42 events planned as part of Russia's Arctic Council chairmanship in 2023

The scheduled events include The Power of Colour tourist festival, timed to coincide with the closing of the winter skiing season in Kirovsk, the Arctic festival Teriberka and the Bering Strait festival in the Chukotka Region.

There are 42 events planned this year as part of Russia's Arctic Council (AC) chairmanship, reports TASS, citing the presentation given by the Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, Aleksey Chekunkov, on Friday at the first meeting of the State Council working group on transport, logistics and socio-economic development of Russia's Arctic zone.

The scheduled events include The Power of Colour tourist festival, timed to coincide with the closing of the winter skiing season in Kirovsk, the Arctic festival Teriberka and the Bering Strait festival in the Chukotka Region. Some events, such as the first International Traditional Reindeer Herding Championship in Yakutia, will be dedicated to the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North. The Second All-Russian Volunteer Forum and Festival The Arctic. The Ice Has Broken, to be held in Novy Urengoy, will also be curated by Russia as the Chair of the Arctic Council.

Russia took over the AC chairmanship from Iceland for 2021-2023 in May. The council members include Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
