The Ministry of Transport of Yakutia has announced its intention to propose the inclusion of the construction of a deep-sea terminal at the Naiba seaport in the federal project for comprehensive development of the North Sea Route. The Project Office for Arctic Development (POAD) writes about it.

Currently, there are two deep-sea ports operating in the western part of the North Sea Route — Sabetta and Murmansk. However, there are no such ports in the eastern part, which hinders the processing of all cargo traffic along the North Sea Route and servicing of the icebreaker fleet. In the Tiksi settlement, located 112 km from the Naiba settlement, there is a seaport, but its depth is not sufficient for ocean-going vessels to dock.

In May 2023, by order of the Russian government, the status of Tiksi port was elevated to international level, allowing foreign vessels to dock there. Naiba is set to become a deep-water component of a unified port complex.

The authorities in Yakutia anticipate that the construction of the Naiba deep-sea port in the Laptev Sea in northern Yakutia will ensure year-round northern supply routes and facilitate the export of hydrocarbons.
