The Murmansk GRegion has ranked ninth among the top ten Russian regions in waste management. The ranking has been compiled by the Russian Environmental Operator as part of the Green Award 2022, says Nord News.

The ranking is based on the sum of statistical and sociological evaluations. The criteria include separate waste collection coverage, solid waste handling and utilisation rates, shortage of waste disposal capacities, uninterrupted provision of solid waste management services, educational and explanatory work with the population, regional environmental campaigns and events, work with volunteer movements and social satisfaction with solid waste management in the region. This year, a new criterion has been introduced at the request of the Russian Government: the timeliness of solid waste management infrastructure construction and its sufficiency.

Nord News earlier reported that the share of treated waste in the Murmansk region had increased to 82%.
