Ground plantings in the Nadezhdinsky district of Norilsk produced good sprouts

For Norilsk, scientists have recommended the use of perennial grass seeds.

4 September 2023

Over two years, extensive land reclamation work was carried out near the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant, following a designed and approved plan. A combination of biological, agrophysical and filtermeliorative measures were implemented here for soil restoration, including the application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, as well as the sowing of perennial grasses. This is what the Severny Gorod portal reports.

Before initiating the reclamation of the area near the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant in 2022, a technical preparatory phase was conducted immediately after the snow melted, involving nearly 30 pieces of machinery and 50 specialists. Dolomite flour was introduced into the soil to reduce acidity, and sorbents were also used. The operations concluded in September 2022, with a series of biological measures scheduled for the subsequent year.

As of now, the areas with these plantings have shown good growth, and the completed work will soon be ready to be presented to the landowner, the administration of Norilsk.

Currently, on plots spanning 64 hectares, specialists are observing good sprouting, indicating land recovery post-reclamation. Special agricultural machinery—disk and tooth harrows—were used to treat the heavy soil of Norilsk. This equipment was used last year during the technical stage of preparatory work and again this year during the biological stage.
