EMERCOM says Arctic Mi-8 helicopters in the polar region will secure the NSR
Aircraft will be on duty in the Murmansk Region in the summer.
7 April 2023Two Mi-8 helicopters of the Arctic design, which will be on duty in the Murmansk Region this summer, will also ensure the safety of the North Sea Route. This was reported by TASS, citing Ruslan Nazarov, head of the regional EMERCOM headquarters.
'The Mi-8 helicopters of the Arctic design will be used to cover the Kola Peninsula, including in the interests of the North Sea Route. If there is any need to use aviation in the North Sea Route, knowing that the main means of rescue are the icebreaker fleet and the air fleet, we will go there,' said Nazarov.
The head of the EMERCOM in the Murmansk Region said that the region's existing onshore team of rescuers and firefighters is able to perform all the necessary tasks on land, while accidents on water are supervised by the Maritime Coordination and Rescue Centre.
