Diplomats from Russia and China discussed Arctic energy projects and the development of the North Sea Route

Both parties have agreed to conduct the next consultation round in China in 2024.

Nikolay Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gao Feng, Special Representative for Arctic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China, held consultations on Thursday focusing on the Arctic region, joint project implementation and the development of the North Sea Route. This is reported by TASS.

The parties discussed in detail the implementation of joint projects in high latitudes, primarily in the fields of energy, investment, science and transport, including the development and use of the North Sea Route infrastructure, as well as the prospects for further cooperation within the framework of the key intergovernmental forum in the Arctic, the Arctic Council, as stated in a message from the Russian Foreign Ministry published on the diplomatic department's website.

The ministry highlighted that there was a constructive and substantive exchange of views between the parties on future cooperation paths in the Arctic region under new geopolitical conditions, fostering a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasised that bilateral cooperation on these and other relevant Arctic issues will continue to be strengthened. The agreement was reached to hold the next round of consultations in 2024 in China.
