A unique Arctic rescue centre to be constructed in YNAA
Construction is set to begin in 2024.
4 May 2024In 2024, Sabetta (YNAA) will see the commencement of a unique EMERCOM rescue centre project in the Arctic. It will secure the logistics infrastructure in the Eastern Arctic as part of the North Sea Route's development. URA.RU reports on the construction's progress and timelines, as well as the centre's tasks and provisions.
The establishment of this centre will enable effective monitoring of operational situations to prevent emergencies in the Arctic and along the North Sea Route. It will also enhance safety levels for residents in remote Arctic areas, facilitate the safe execution of major economic projects, improve coordination of rescue operations in the Arctic and reduce emergency response times.
The rescue centre will be constructed under an investment agreement between Russia's EMERCOM, NOVATEK and the YNAA government. The construction of a dormitory for centre staff and administrative facilities will be funded by Yamal LNG. An aviation unit will be established at the centre, with its facilities and helipad receiving federal funding.
Given that Sabetta is a rotational settlement not meant for permanent residence, it is proposed that the centre operates on a rotational basis. The total staff complement will number 50 people.
The aviation link's construction will be completed by 2026. The project will be fully developed in 2024 and implemented over the following two years.
