Logistics Tailored to the North Sea Route

Two new warehouses in Arkhangelsk and Norilsk to handle all types of cargo

25 march 2022

25.03.2022 // The volume of freight traffic on the North Sea Route is rapidly growing. At the end of 2021, it reached 34.85 million tons, and by 2024 the volume of cargo transportation through the NSR should be 80 million tons, by 2030 - 150 million tons, of which 30 million is transit. Well-developed storage infrastructure is needed to 'pump' a large volume of cargo through Arctic ports. In Arkhangelsk and Norilsk, it will be created by Transit Cargo LLC.

From 2024, the Transit Cargo company plans to become an operator of modern warehouse complexes for cargo of any purpose in Norilsk and Arkhangelsk.

Products, consumer goods, equipment, spare parts, industrial and technical goods — Transit Cargo will store and handle all of the above. Cargo will be handled by two storage facilities: Norilsky (total area of 4,954 sq. metres) in the Krasnoyarsk territory and Arkhangelsky (total area of 20,000 sq. metres) in the Arkhangelsk region.

Norilsk Nickel Group will become one of the company's main customers, as the transport company transports cargo along the North Sea Route for the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk transport branches on chartered ships. The company has already signed an agreement on the construction of two logistics terminals on the territory of AZRF with the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC). According to the agreement, investments in the project will amount to RUB 2 bn. A total of 40 jobs will be created.

The AZRF resident status opens up the opportunity for the company to take advantage of the numerous preferences provided for investors. So, "Transit Cargo" for five years will be exempted from paying income taxes, and then for another five years it will pay only 10%. The company will receive the land plots necessary for the construction of warehouse complexes in a simplified procedure. Subsidizing insurance premiums and interest rates on loans for investment activities will be a serious support measure too.

The investor is confident that being an operator of warehouse complexes in the Arctic zone will allow the company to expand the geography of cargo transportation and integrate itself into the global logistics system.
