More than 50 high ice-class vessels are under construction under RS technical supervision
Significant projects with RS involvement included the construction of the Arctic shuttle tanker Project 42K, the ice-resistant self-propelled platform Severny Polyus, the atomic icebreaker Rossiya under Project 10510 Leader and a series of universal dual-ship nuclear icebreakers under Project 2220.
13 March 2023More than 50 vessels of ice class Arc4 and above are under construction under the technical supervision of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). These figures were given at the 8th International Conference 'The Arctic: Sustainable Development' by Sergey Shishkin, Deputy Director General for Industrial Classification and Supervision in RS, Sudostroenie.info reported.
The RS representative noted that the institution has developed the world's most detailed system for the ice classification of ships. The regulatory and technical framework is constantly evolving, accumulating the unique practical experience of technical supervision in the design, construction and operation of arctic vessels.
In particular, RS was the first classification society to introduce into its regulatory and technical framework requirements for double-acting ships, requirements for arctic steel and ice-resistant coatings for structures designed to operate in conditions of low arctic temperatures, etc. In addition, Sergey Shishkin talked about RS's considerable practical experience in offshore LNG projects.
