Magnit retailer started test shipments to St. Petersburg via the North Sea Route
Magnit retail chain has started test shipments of groceries and consumer goods via the North Sea Route (NSR) to St. Petersburg.
1 November 2022The company expects cargo arrival time to be 10 days shorter on average than when using multimodal logistics. This is reported by Kommersant.
'Six forty-foot containers of consumer goods were shipped from China on the Russian Arctic container ship Monchegorsk directly to the port of St. Petersburg. The planned transit time will be about 30 days and the shipment will arrive in Russia at the end of November 2022,' the retailer said in a press release on Tuesday, 1 November.
If the project is deemed a success, Magnit will start using the northern route on a permanent basis from spring 2023. The shipments will help load the capacity of the St. Petersburg port, which has seen its operations reduced amid the refusal of major carriers to make deliveries to Russia.
