Karelia to receive RUB 250 million to develop a biathlon & skiing facility

The region's Governor, Artur Parfenchikov, announced plans to construct the complex in Kostomuksha.

Karelia will receive RUB 250 million by 2026 for the development of a biathlon & skiing facility in Kostomuksha. This information was reported by TASS, citing the republic's leader, Artur Parfenchikov.

"Karelia is tentatively set to receive a 250-million donation by 2026 for the further development of the biathlon & skiing facility in Kostomushka," stated Parfenchikov. "Biathlon is more than a sport, it's also a major part of the economy. We know that and we will strive to establish a state-of-the-art biathlon & skiing facility here in the Arctic."

As the press service of the regional Ministry of Economic Development told TASS, the funds will be received as part of the government programme for the socio-economic development of the Russian Arctic. Parfenchikov added that this programme is currently seeing to the construction of a kindergarten in the village of Kalevala.

Nearly 40% of Karelia's is within Russia's Arctic zone. This includes six municipalities: Kemsky, Belomorsky, Loukhsky, Kalevala, and Segezha Districts, as well as the city of Kostomuksha.
