Development of the Syradasayskoye coal deposit in Taimyr is on schedule
The company does not abandon its plans to develop the project and intends to launch industrial coal mining this year.
1 April 2022Development of the Syradasayskoye coal deposit in Taimyr continues in accordance with the approved schedule, as stated on the official website of the government of Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The company does not abandon its plans to develop the project and intends to start industrial coal mining this year in spite of the current situation, notes Stalbek Mishakov, General Director of Northern Star LLC. Previously, the company purchased specialised foreign equipment but is currently working on the supply and service of its equipment from Russian and Chinese manufacturers. In the future, deliveries will occur depending on the economic situation and, if necessary, the search for alternative suppliers.
The General Director of the company also spoke about the planned export deliveries of coal.
"In the context of sanctions and blocked cargoes in Europe, the possibility of selling up to 100% of production in the Russian market is being worked out, in view of the shortage of the grade domestically and the competitive cost. K-grade coal from the Syradasayskoe deposit is in demand and in short supply in both the domestic and export alternative markets. Thus, we are currently considering the possibility of exporting products to China in 2023, we are negotiating with potential buyers from Turkey, India, Vietnam and Brazil, "- he explained.
According to Alexander Uss, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the development of the Syradasayskoe coal deposit is one of the major investment projects. The project will contribute to the task set by the President of Russia to bring the Northern Sea Route cargo traffic to 80 million tons by 2024.
The resources of the Syradasayskoye coal deposit, one of the largest in the world, are estimated at 5 billion tonnes. The field is located 110 km southeast of the village of Dikson in the Taimyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The project on creation of a coal complex here is implemented by OOO Severnaya Zvezda (part of AEON Holding Company). It includes creation of a coal strip mine with capacity of 5 mln tons per year in the first stage and 10 mln tons per year in the second stage; construction of a coal preparation plant and necessary infrastructure including sea coal terminal, motor road, shift camp, power plant, airfield and other objects. The project is expected to create at least 2,000 jobs, with investments totalling over RUB 45 billion by 2025.
