Chekunkov says supporting the population will be the priority of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East

11 November 2020

The new Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Aleksey Chekunkov said that social issues involved in supporting the development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic will be of the highest priority. This was reported by TASS news agency.

'We will pay the greatest attention to the social issues involved in supporting the development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic. There cannot be any economic growth, and businesses cannot be adequately staffed with new people or imbued with a new sense of purpose without comfortable living conditions for the residents of the Russian Far East and the Arctic,' said Mr Chekunkov, speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

He also noted that it was important to continue the effective work already implemented by the ministry and his predecessor Aleksandr Kozlov. According to the new Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East, flexibility will be a necessary attribute for the agency. 'When the ministry resembles a modern international company in terms of communicating with investors and communicating with our counterparties, we become an attractive partner to work with,' added Mr. Chekunkov.
