AZRF resident to launch 215 modern buses in Arkhangelsk in 2023

They will carry passengers on 28 city routes, with the first batch of buses already arriving in the region.

1 December 2022

A resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF) will launch more than 200 new modern buses on the city routes of Arkhangelsk in 2023. A corresponding agreement has been signed by the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) and the transport company Riko, says TASS, citing the regional administration's press service.

As a resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, the company will create a bus operator and provide transportation services to Arkhangelsk residents starting from January 1. Its 215 new buses will carry passengers on 28 city routes.

The region is already receiving the first batches of gas-powered Lotos buses, which are suited for people with limited mobility.

The investor says the recruitment campaign is already underway, with priority given to the local residents. Almost half of the job openings — for professional drivers and experienced mechanics — have already been filled. The employer will organise training courses for the newcomers. The buses will have an identical look, and the drivers will wear uniforms.

In addition to the new buses, Arkhangelsk will also receive an operations base to accommodate transport, a repair shop, a car wash, and an engineering and administrative staff building. The project, in which the AZRF resident will invest RUB 8.6 bn, will create jobs for about 1,500 local residents.
