More than a thousand earthquakes are recorded in the Arctic every year

Russian scientists have installed a station on Dixon Island, which will monitor the seismic situation in the Northern Sea Route, TASS reports.

“Scientists from the seismology laboratory of the Federal Research Center for the Comprehensive Study of the Arctic of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have installed another seismic station in the Arctic. This time, the equipment was installed on Dikson Island, on the territory of the Kolb geophysical station named after V. V. Khodov of the Northern Directorate for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, ”the statement says.

According to scientists, more than a thousand earthquakes with a magnitude of 1.5 to 5 and higher are recorded annually in the Arctic.
