Tourist flow to the Arctic to triple by 2035

The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East expects to achieve threefold, up to 3 million people a year, growth of tourist flow to the Arctic by 2035.

4 June 2020

This was announced at an online press conference by Alexander Krutikov, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

'The goal that we set for the next 15 years is to increase the tourist flow to the Arctic three times, up to 3 million people. In my opinion, this is the permissible limit from the point of view of the footprint when we will not violate the environmental principles of doing business in the Arctic', the Deputy Minister said.

According to him, solutions that will help achieve such results are being explored. In particular, preparations are underway for a tourism development strategy in the Russian Arctic zone, which will determine the points of attraction for tourists in each northern region of the country, TASS reports.
