The meat will be delivered to Almaty

6 December 2021

The Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area (YNAA) has arranged for the delivery of agricultural produce to the Republic of Kazakhstan. Approximately 5 tons of reindeer meat will be shipped as part of the first consignment. This is what the press service of the regional government told Tass (a Russian news agency).

In late October, a number of events to promote reindeer breeding products were held in Kazakhstan. The participants discussed export shipments of agricultural produce to the republic.

'The parties reached a preliminary agreement for trial shipments of reindeer meat products to Almaty. The approximate delivery volume will be about 5 tons,' the press service officials told the news agency.

Yamal is home to the largest herd of domesticated reindeer: more than 760 thousand. The YNAA is Russia's only region that has a right to export reindeer meat to EU countries. Since 2008, more than 4 thousand tons of organic meat has been delivered to Sweden, Germany and Finland.

Before the year's end, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area (YNAA) is going to store up more than 2.2 tons of reindeer meat. According to the press service of the regional government, this is 200 tons more than in 2020.
