21 March 2024Currently, the growth in cargo turnover via the Northern Sea Route has already reached 3.6% compared to the same period last year. This was reported by Gadzhimagomed Huseynov, First Deputy Minister of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, according to the Parlamentskaya Gazeta.
Last year, a record 36.2 million tons of cargo was transported via the Northern Sea Route, compared to 34 million tons in 2022, as reported by Huseynov. "We anticipate an increase in transportation volumes via the Northern Sea Route this year as well. As of today, we have already transported more than 7 million tons," stated the first deputy minister of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East.
He reminded that in 2022, a plan was approved for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035 with an investment volume of almost RUB 2 tn.
"The plan not only sets a long-term development direction but also represents a system of interconnected measures for developing the cargo base, constructing icebreaker and rescue fleets, port infrastructure, and more," said Huseynov.
This includes the creation of a comprehensive security contour that encompasses a satellite group, rescue fleet bases, and emergency rescue centers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
