The government extends the North Sea Route development plan to 2035.

2 May 2023

The Russian government has expanded the development plan for the North Sea Route to 2035, RIA-Novosti reported, citing the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

'The government continues to work on the infrastructure of the North Sea Route, a crucial transport corridor of national and global importance. An order supplementing its development plan until 2035 with new measures was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin,' the statement said. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, Rosatom, the Ministry of Transport and the EMERCOM will be responsible for this process.

It entails the creation of Russian-made versions of the most significant shipboard equipment required for the construction of icebreakers, ice-class cargo vessels, and rescue vessels. The plan includes activities to develop projects for such equipment and to launch it into production, as reported by the press relations department of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with the Ministry of Finance, is expected to prepare proposals on the volumes and sources of financing for the creation of competitive domestic shipboard equipment.
