8 November 2023The planned industrial slaughter of reindeer at the high-tech slaughter complex 94 km in the Amguema settlement in the Egvekinot urban district of the Chukotka Autonomous Area has been completed. At this slaughterhouse, approximately 2,900 domestic reindeer were processed, with a total slaughter weight of 119 tons. This was reported by the press service of the Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area.
In October of this year, Municipal Enterprise of Agricultural Producers 'Chaunskoye' was the first in the region to complete work at the Palyavaam complex in the Pevek urban district. Here, the company processed 740 reindeer with a total slaughter weight of 60 tons.
'The remaining reindeer breeding farms in the Chukotka Autonomous Area, which use stationary and portable points—corrals—will begin slaughtering in November, with the onset of consistently negative air temperatures. The reindeer slaughtering campaign typically concludes in December-January. In total, about 7,000 animals are planned to be processed in 2023, yielding 300 tons of meat,' commented the district Department of Agriculture and Food.
Goods from companies that have concluded their reindeer culling season are being distributed to socially significant institutions, kindergartens, schools and district hospitals, and are also being sold to the public through regional commercial enterprises. By-products from the slaughter (such as fur, skins and by-products) will be sent for extensive processing.
