Yachtsmen Discover New Tourist Routes in the Arctic
According to the website of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, the organisers of the sailing expedition that took place in the waters of the Arctic and Siberia from 1 August to 30 September plan to use Russia's term as chairman of the Arctic Council to discuss the exploration of the Arctic zone on small vessels.
2 октября 2020Along the route of the two-month expedition, the cruisers Sibir ('Siberia') and Zhemchuzhina ('Pearl') passed through Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar, Kharasavey, Bely Island, Salekhard, Khanty-Mansiysk, Tobolsk, and Omsk.
This voyage has proven that it is possible to sail small ships in the waters of the Arctic and Siberia, which, in turn, should facilitate the development of expeditionary tourism, interregional business cooperation, and small business growth.
'Our expedition, which ran mostly along the Northern Sea Route, has proven that sailing in the Western Arctic is quite possible in the summer-autumn navigation season', said Gleb Pletnev, the Chief Development Officer of the Association for Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Cluster of the Arkhangelsk region.
The members of the expedition are in the process of developing several new routes and expeditions in the Arctic.
These routes may include Murmansk, Dikson, Taimyr, Arkhangelsk, Mezen, Pustozersk, the Nenets islands Vaigach and Kolguev, Yamal island Bely, and the Seikha settlement.
