The delivery of the fourth nuclear-powered icebreaker Yakutia of Project 22220 Arktika is planned for December. This is what the Atomnaya Energiya 2.0 portal reports.

"The vessel is currently in the final stage of construction. The work on the icebreaker is proceeding as per schedule without any disruptions. The acceptance certificate is scheduled to be signed on December 20 after conducting necessary tests. All that remains is to load the nuclear fuel, conduct port tests, and commission it in December," stated Leonid Irlitsa, Acting General Director of FSUE Atomflot.

Yakutia is the fourth icebreaker in the series and the third serial one. The lead icebreaker of Project 22220 Arktika, which gave its name to the entire series, is already operational in the North, along with the first and second serial icebreakers Sibir and Ural, which regularly travel to Dudinka.

A unique feature of Project 22220 icebreakers is the use of variable draft through ballast tanks. These dual-draft ships can operate in both deep and shallow waters in river channels, overcoming ice up to three meters thick without losing speed. According to design specifications, these new icebreakers are the largest and most powerful in the world.
