Russia has abolished border control for Russian planes delivering cargo to the Arctic

According to the law, this pertains to the delivery of people and cargo to ships departing from Russian ports and subsequently arriving in Russian ports without entering the internal sea waters and territorial seas of foreign states.

6 April 2024

President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has enacted a law eliminating border, customs and other checks for Russian aircraft transporting people and goods from Russia to Russian vessels, man-made islands and structures in the Arctic Ocean. This was reported by TASS.

This pertains to the transportation of people and goods to ships leaving from Russian ports and subsequently arriving at Russian ports without entering the territorial waters of foreign countries.

The specified aircraft can take off and land from airfields, helipads and landing sites within the Russian Federation, including those not designated for international flights.

As highlighted in the supporting documents, these new rules will enhance the effectiveness of conducting drifting scientific expeditions in the Arctic Ocean and its adjoining seas.

The law will come into effect 30 days after its official announcement.
