The new draft law has received approval from the majority of relevant departments.

4 April 2024

The draft law on environmental monitoring in the North Sea Route waters is expected to be submitted to the Government in the second quarter. This information is reported by Parlamentskaya Gazeta, citing Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergey Anoprienko. He proposed this initiative at the meeting of the Council to Develop the Far East, Arctic and Antarctic under the Federation Council on 4 April.

As Russia is actively exploiting and developing the North Sea Route, environmental issues are of particular importance today. Considering the development plan for the route until 2035, the ministry has drafted a bill that has been agreed upon by almost all departments, according to Anoprienko.

'We are enhancing the unified environmental monitoring system with a new subsystem for state environmental monitoring in the North Sea Route waters. We plan to submit it to the Government in the second quarter,' clarified the Ministry representative. This will provide all stakeholders with reliable and comprehensive information about the state of environmental pollution in the North Sea Route waters, he noted.
