Five airports in remote Chukotka settlements will be reconstructed by the end of 2027 as part of the state programme for developing the Russian Federation's transport system. This was reported to TASS by Konstantin Solonsky, head of the District Department of Industrial Policy.

'The county's aviation infrastructure comprises 34 takeoff and landing sites in communities and nine airports. The state programme of the Russian Federation 'Development of the Transport System' plans to reconstruct seven airport complexes and airports, with five of them scheduled for completion in 2026–2027,' said the head of the relevant department.

He added that the airport complexes in question are located in the Keperveem, Lavrentiya, Markovo, Provideniya settlements and the Krest Bay airport. The airport in Beringovsky settlement will be reconstructed by the end of 2024, and work is currently underway to determine the financial model for the reconstruction of the airport terminal complex in Pevek.

The entire territory of Chukotka AA is located in the Arctic, and most settlements can only be reached by air or seasonal roads. Transportation accessibility to remote Chukotka settlements is provided by the regional airline Chukotavia.
