The Union of Indigenous Peoples asked the Federal Agency for Tourism for aid to promote ethno-tourism

Ethno-tourism is one of the priority goals for the development of the macro-region

17 декабря 2020

The Interregional Public Association of Indigenous Minorities has asked the Federal Agency for Tourism to revise certain categories for indigenous communities within the agency's grant competitions by 2021. This was announced by Antonina Gorbunova, the head of the executive committee of the public organisation, at the first meeting of the association.

'The communities of indigenous minority peoples possess the unique potential for contributing to the development of domestic tourism and advancing the tourism industry as a whole. When it comes to state aid, however, of course, these communities cannot compete with major players in the tourism business. They need additional tools. Therefore, our association has sent a letter to the Federal Agency for Tourism that proposes an initiative to create separate special categories for communities of indigenous peoples as part of the grant support provided by the agency', she said.

According to the head of the executive committee of the association, the organisation is actively corresponding with the Federal Agency for Tourism to discuss the proposed initiative. 'We hope to see official support for our initiative in the next year and that this little endeavour of ours will show some results', Gorbunova concluded.

Gorbunova noted that a number of policy documents were adopted in the Arctic this year. In her words, the strategic planning documents recognise ethnic tourism as a goal in the development of the macroregion.

The Interregional Public Association of Indigenous Minorities (KMNSoyuz) was established in September 2020 to support indigenous communities engaged in ethno-tourism and traditional crafts, the development of small and medium-sized businesses of indigenous minorities, and the implementation of international projects related to the rights and culture of indigenous peoples.
