The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Proposes a Comprehensive Approach to the Development of Polar Aviation
During a meeting of the Council for the Arctic and Antarctic under the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Alexander Krutikov, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East, discussed the most essential areas for the integrated restoration and development of aviation in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation.
17 июля 2020'We are talking about 324 routes with a total length of 120 thousand kilometres in the Arctic Zone alone. Today, the regions spend around RUB 2 billion annually on the maintenance of affordable transportation prices. However, this is still not enough. Regions are still unable to make tickets available to all. The new programme provides for annual subsidies, with expenses split 50/50 between the state and the regions. And our current goal is to launch this programme in 2021', said the Deputy Minister.
He added that it is not only necessary to ensure affordability, but also to reduce the cost of polar transport, in order to minimise the number of future subsidies. Accordingly, a federal programme is needed for the restoration of landing sites.
The second area of polar aviation development should be the production of a modern line of Arctic aircraft and helicopters. The third area will be the creation of a fuel supply system for polar airfields, while the fourth is the development of a pilot training programme.
