'Next year it will be our turn to chair the Arctic Council. We plan to hold a summit of Arctic peoples in Russia and show the achievements of our country in this area', said Alexander Krutikov, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

Representatives of 19 small-numbered peoples of the North live in the Arctic zone of Russia: more than 80,000 people. The Arctic is home to their unique items of cultural and historical heritage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the foundations of the Russian national Arctic policy until 2035. One of the goals of the document to improve the quality of life of the indigenous minorities of the north, and the second is to protect their original environment and traditional way of life.
